Ironman 70.3 Philippines

philwebsupport.com

Mabuhay! The stage is set for the inaugural Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines with the launch of the website and the official opening of registration.
“We had three goals during the conception of this event,” says Sunrise Events Inc. president Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, a triathlete himself. “First, we want to create a memorable experience for the triathletes. While the Philippines has not been seen as a major destination for triathlon, we offer a beautiful country with some of the most hospitable people in the world. We would like to develop this event and create the concept of “sports tourism.” So aside from the race, we hope to make this event interesting in many other regards. In addition to the camp offered by LifeSport, the official coaches of Ironman, we want to encourage triathletes and their families to explore other parts of this beautiful country. Hence, we will be developing a few tour packages for your consideration to make the trip even more memorable.

“Second, we want to develop the sport of triathlon in the Philippines. While the sport is still relatively small here, there has been significant growth in the past couple of years. As more and more people seek a healthier lifestyle, triathlon is well positioned to attract many new participants. One way of encouraging this is by offering relays. I am pleased WTC has agreed to this and we will have several categories in the relay division. (Men, Women, Mixed, Corporate and Collegiate). We believe that by offering relays, participants will discover the joy and challenge of completing all three disciplines.

“Third, we want to offer a first-rate event. We will be having a small professional field participate which is always exciting for age groupers. Our event is well timed for the pros (and age groupers alike) who hope to compete in Hawaii, since Ironman 70.3 Philippines is just seven weeks away from the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It also provides excellent training for the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Florida. We are working closely with our partners and sponsors to ensure you have a unique experience that will encourage you to return year after year .

“I would like to thank our sponsors: Cobra Energy Drink, Globe Telecoms, Department of Tourism, Philippine Air Lines, Alaska Milk Corporation, Oakley, Timex, New Balance, SKI Construction and Gatorade for their support of the sport. I trust that their association with this annual event will be long and successful. I would also like to thank our local media partners ABS CBN Publishing, The Philippine Star and Solar Sports. Lastly, special thanks to Camarines Sur Governor LRay Villafuerte for his support and commitment to making this event a world-class success.”

Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing you in August.
